However, a petrol engine can never match the torque rush of a diesel engine. That said, among all the petrol cars, there are two powerful diesel SUVs that are launching soon in India! Diesel SUVs In 2024 – MG Gloster Facelift
Among the two upcoming diesel SUVs, it is the Gloster facelift. The SUV was first launched in 2020 with two diesel engines on option – 2.0-litre turbo & 2.0-litre twin turbo diesel engines. The SUV created excitement among all the diesel lovers as it was the cheapest 7-seater with a twin-turbo diesel engine. It is a powerful unit which produces 213 bhp & 478 Nm of torque – mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox! However, the XL size & the heavy body of the Gloster did not really allow it to enjoy the power of the engine. That said, it is definitely a refined engine which offers smooth drive on the highways. With a facelift, MG will retain this diesel engine which is expected to become more responsive on slow speeds.

Rest, the facelift will bring significant changes to the exterior, interior & the feature list of the Gloster. As we already know, the Glsoter is based on the Maxus LDV D90 SUV sold in China. The Maxus product recently received an update which mimics the design that was seen on the test car of the Gloster in India. So we do have a hint at what the Gloster facelift will look like. Also, expect some exciting features for the facelift including second row ventilated seats, grand centre console, updated touchscreen & digital instrument cluster among others. Talking about the launch, the Gloster facelift is expected to debut in November 2024!
Toyota Fortuner Diesel Hybrid
The next 7-seater diesel SUV which will be launching soon is the Toyota Fortuner hybrid! Earlier this year, Toyota unveiled the world’s first hybrid diesel engine. Toyota paired a 48 V battery with its popular 2.8-litre diesel engine. The intention was a more refined experience & enhanced mileage with the powerful engine. The brand first introduced the new combination with the Hilux & later with the Fortuner. However, there is no change in the power output of the 2.8-litre unit. The engine continues to produce 201 bhp & 500 Nm – mated to manual & automatic transmission options. On the other hand, the brand recently bumped the power by 25 bhp & 50 Nm for the Fortuner in Indonesian markets.

So among these, it is the hybrid unit which is highly expected to debut in India. With the hybrid coming in the picture, the Fortuner will offer enhanced mileage, refined power delivery & better NVH levels. Apart from the new engine, we are not expecting major changes to the SUV! Unfortunately, the Fortuner will continue with the same outdated interior. Whereas the updated engine might be offered with a significant price hike! That said, the Fortuner Hybrid is also expected to arrive in November 2024!
