Toyota’s Tata Punch Rival: What Do We Know?

According to a report from Japanese media, Toyota is planning to develop a range of cars globally under its ‘bZ’ or ‘Beyond Zero’ brand. While it currently sells the bZ4X SUV in international markets, development is also underway for an Urban SUV concept set to launch in India by 2025. A recent rumor suggests that Toyota has partnered with Suzuki to create its smallest electric crossover. Although Suzuki has limited experience in manufacturing electric vehicles, the company excels in designing compact cars, which is crucial for this project.

The report states that the new EV will be built on the e-TNGA platform. Its compact design makes it perfect for city commuting. The SUV will be approximately 3.7 meters long, making it slightly smaller than the Punch.ev. The design of the new model was unveiled at the ‘Battery EV Strategy Briefing Session’ in 2021. Inspired by the Toyota Aygo city car, the new model features squared-off wheel arches and a muscular bonnet, with a debut expected sometime in 2025.

Toyota’s Tata Punch Rival: Powertrain

In terms of powertrain, the next-gen EV will come powered by a more efficient battery that will promise a range of over 300 km. This single-motor (FWD) SUV will produce around 118 bhp and 294 Nm of peak torque which is significantly more powerful than the Punch.ev. Currently, powertrain details are still under wraps, we expect more information to be avail closer to the launch.

Alongside the Toyota bZ SUV, the Tata Punch.ev will also face competition from the Hyundai Inster EV. The new micro-SUV model was recently launched international market and offers a rugged look.
