Toyota Fortuner – What’s New

Currently Toyota has just two engine options for its flagship models. The 2.8-litre turbo diesel produces around 200 bhp and 500 Nm, while the 2.7-litre petrol unit generates 164 bhp and 245 Nm. With MoRTH recently condemning diesel engines, the brand was in need of a new turbo petrol engine that would offer sufficient power and mileage. So Toyota is now developing a new 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine to be used with the Fortuner and Hilux models. The new engine is expected to debut with the next-gen Hilux and Fortuner that is expected to go on sale soon globally.

The new engine is reportedly more powerful, developing up to 400 bhp of maximum power output and 549 Nm of peak torque. Additionally, this engine swap can also be better as it will boost the power of the existing models.
