Maruti Suzuki Fronx receives 1500 bookings in just five days

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) entered the Auto Expo 2023 with a bang and unveiled a ton of new products in the country. Amongst these were two of the most highly anticipated models – the lifestyle off-roader Jimny five-door and the YTB Baleno Cross which it named the Fronx. Yesterday it was announced that the Jimny managed to receive 3,000 bookings in the first two days. Well, now it has been reported by the brand that the newest crossover SUV Fronx has also managed to garner 1,500 bookings as well. The reservations for both of the new SUVs began on the same day of their unveiling.

Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director – of Sales and Marketing, MSIL recently revealed that the Fronx managed to reach this 1,500 bookings mark in just five days. He further added, that the Jimny has now also surpassed the 3,000 bookings number and has reached 5,000 confirmed reservations. Srivastava was then asked about the launch timeline of these new SUVs to which he did not give any answer. It is believed that the company is aiming to launch these new vehicles by the first quarter of FY24, however, these are just speculations.

The Fronx is the company’s newest and most distinctive SUV. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has built a crossover SUV for the first time. Maruti Suzuki presented the Fronx on the second day of the 2023 Auto Expo and said that it will be available for purchase through NEXA stores. This crossover SUV slots above the hatchback Baleno, compact SUV Brezza, but below the top-of-the-line sub compact SUV Grand Vitara in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio. The company has not yet disclosed the price of this new car, but we can expect it to be in the range of Rs 8 to 12 lakh in India. Interested buyers can reserve one for a sum of Rs 11,000.

The new crossover SUV will be available in five distinct configurations: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. In addition, the vehicle’s drivetrain will be available with either a 1.0L Turbo Boosterjet engine or a 1.2L Dual Jet Dual VVT engine. The 998 cc 1.0L Turbo Boosterjet produces 73.6 kW at 5500 rpm and 147.6 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,500 rpm. Meanwhile, the 1,197 cc 1.2L Dual Jet Dual VVT engine generates 66 kW at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The latter includes regenerative braking and electric torque assistance.

Meanwhile the Jimny five door is a bigger version of the three-door vehicle that has been available in overseas markets for some time. Suzuki’s unique Suzuki AllGrip off-road technology comes standard on the all-new Jimny five-door. The Jimny can cross tough terrain thanks to four-wheel-drive technology. In India, it will be the only vehicle with a 4X4 system in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be powered by the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated K15C Dualjet engine that powers the updated Ertiga, XL6, brand-new Brezza, and a tonne of other Maruti Suzuki models. When aided by a mild hybrid system, this engine produces a maximum of 104.8 PS and 134.2 Nm of torque. A 4-speed torque converter will be offered as an alternative to the 5-speed manual transmission, which will come as standard. Maruti Suzuki has altered the engine to make it more suitable for off-road driving.
