With the unveiling of the five-door Jimny at the Auto Expo 2023, Maruti Suzuki has put an end to all the rumours around the hardcore off-roader. Apart from the unique design, the tall and tough stance and the very potent four-wheel drive setup, there are many other attributes of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which are not much known to many people. Here, we bring to you some of the highlights of the newly-unveiled five-door Jimny, which are worth your attention:
Headlamp washer
A feature which is usually seen only in luxury sedans and SUVs, headlamp washers do come in handy while mud-plunging and heavy rainfalls. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has become the most affordable vehicle in India to get headlamp washers.

Flap-type door handles
Usually, cars with request sensors come with pull-type door handles. However, the Jimny gets this feature in conjunction with utilitarian flap-type door handles. While modern car buyers prefer pull-type door handles, Jimny gets the flap-type ones to keep its authenticity as an old-school off-roader intact.
No auto-dimming IRVM
The Jimny is one of those modern SUVs in its segment, which does not get auto-dimming inside the rearview mirror. Given that the lower-positioned Baleno does get one, the omission of IRVM is a bit surprising.
No armrest and driver seat height adjustment
While the omission of IRVM is still a bit common in the compact SUV segment, the other crucial must-haves like the front centre armrest and driver seat height adjustment lever are also not present in Jimny, even in higher-spec variants.
It’s a four-seater SUV, not a five
The India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny might be having two additional doors over the global version, but the restricted width of the SUV means that it is much more acceptable as a four-seater SUV. The rear seats are good enough to accommodate two full-sized adults.
Only Maruti Suzuki offering on a ladder frame
With the previous-generation Gypsy out of the picture completely, the new Jimny now holds the distinction of being the only vehicle from Maruti Suzuki, which is based on a ladder-on-frame architecture, and not a monocoque frame.
Window buttons in the centre console
Like its head-on rival, the Mahindra Thar, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny also gets front power window switches placed on the centre console between the front seats. Meanwhile, the switches for rear power windows are positioned on the rear door panels.
Rigid front axle
Retaining the old-school essence of traditional ladder-on-frame SUVs, the new Jimny gets a rigid front axle, much like the now-gone Gypsy. It ensures that you can abuse the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and take it through the most extreme terrains without worrying about breaking the axle.
Low ratio transfer case
Given that it is the only four-wheel drive SUV in Maruti Suzuki’s current stable of products, the new Jimny also gets a low ratio transfer case among the other 4WD attributes. While the exact crawl ratio of the low-ratio transfer case is not out yet, it’s likely to be very effective at doubling torque output for off road situations.
Recirculating ball steering set-up
While modern cars have switched to rack and pinion steering setup, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny sticks to the conventional recirculating ball steering. Compared to the rack and pinion setup, the recirculating ball steering system feels more robust and durable over off-road terrains.
