120 Bhp Tata Altroz Racer confirmed for launch: To rival Hyundai i20 N

Tata Motors took over the stage at Auto Expo 2023 after unveiling a total of 14 cars. Some of them were a complete surprise to a lot of people. Amongst these 14 cars, one that stood out was the brand’s newest premium hatchback the Altroz Racer. The company unveiled this model as a direct rival to the famed Hyundai i20 N-Line hot hatch. Now it was recently confirmed by Tata Motors that this new sportier iteration of its premium hatchback Altroz has been confirmed for launch and will go into production.

While replying to an Instagram user, the official handle of the Tata Altroz – tataaltrozofficial stated that, “The car will be launched soon and the price will be revealed during the launch. Keep following our official website and official social media platforms for latest updates.” No official dates were stated by the handle but it, as it mentioned the launch, will be soon.

Recently, the automaker also released the brand-new hot hatch’s official TVC.Apart from the sportier dual-tone exterior colour, the new 10.25-inch touchscreen display with a fresh software upgrade is the first significant feature of the forthcoming model. Furthermore, a voice-activated motorised sunroof, an air purifier, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless charger are additional features included in the TVC for the new Altroz Racer. Along with six airbags, the Altroz Racer will also receive brand-new all-black upholstery with red contrast stitching, red and white stripes, and Racer embossing.

This is one of the first niche products from the brand in a while and the company is trying to make a name among the enthusiasts in the country. The outside of the Altroz Racer is the same as the exterior of the standard Altroz, with a few small stylistic modifications. A blacked-out top and bonnet, twin white racing stripes, and Racer emblem on the front fenders are a few of these alterations. A shark fin antenna and a more prominent rear spoiler are will also be added to the Altroz.

One of the key features of the Altroz Racer is its engine, which, despite sharing a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with the Altroz iTurbo, now generates 120 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, or 10 horsepower and 30 ft-lbs more than the iTurbo. The Hyundai i20 N Line, which has 120 horsepower but 2 Nm more torque (172 Nm) than the Altroz Racer, now has the same power as the hot hatch from Tata Motors.

On the same stage at the show the company also showcased another iteration of the same premium hatchback. Tata Motors also unveiled the i-CNG Altroz along with the Punch i-CNG. The 1.2-liter three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the Altroz CNG and Punch CNG will come with a factory-fitted CNG kit, but as of right now, it has only been shown off with the 5-speed manual transmission. The powerplant in both cars boasts 77 bhp of power and 97 Nm of torque in their CNG variants, which is less than the 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque in their normal petrol counterparts. The cars also feature the country’s first dual cylinder CNG setup.
