Skoda has been quite a unique brand in the Indian market. It has enjoyed periods of good sales but has never been able to continue the momentum. Now with its India 2.0 project, it hopes to fix these problems. It has plans to launch a sleeve of new products in different segments. One of its products could target the compact SUV segment. Skoda’s plan
Skoda as a brand is known for its expensive offerings, but it is looking to change that with its project ‘India 2.0’. We already have the Kushaq and Slavia, Skoda’s next car will sit below the Kushaq. It will be a sub-four-metre car letting Skoda price the car more competitively. This compact SUV will come under ‘Project 2.5’ and be based on the MQB A0 IN platform. This platform has proven its mantle at GNCAP, and we could expect a good safety rating on this compact SUV.
Expectations
We expect Skoda to bring design elements from the Kushaq to this compact SUV. We can expect Skoda’s traditional grille at the front. This grille will be flanked by sharp headlamps like the Kushaq and Slavia. What about the engine options? This compact SUV is expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. We would love to see the 1.5-litre turbo petrol, but that seems highly unlikely considering the extra taxes. Skoda will have to load the SUV with features to take on the established competition. In terms of features, we could see a 10-inch infotainment system, electric sunroof, ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster etc.
Cheapest Skoda car – Launch timeline
Skoda is eager to enter the segment, but at the same time is not looking to rush the development. For now, it has set a launch timeline of 2025. Competing in the compact SUV segment will not be easy, so we hope Skoda brings a polished product to the market. If Skoda does get it right, the Skoda compact SUV could become a success.
