Cheapest Diesel variant of new Mahindra Thar RWD AX(O) compared with costliest diesel Thar LX 4X4 variant [Video]

The Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular lifestyle off-roaders in the country and ever since its launch the model has been in high demand. Talking of the demand, the market went even crazy after Mahindra launched the RWD variants of this SUV. Currently, the company offers the model in RWD and 4WD configurations which can be chosen with either a soft top or a hard top. The company also offers the Thar with the choice between a petrol and a diesel powerplant as well. Recently a video comparing the top-spec LX 4×4 diesel model and the RWD AX(O) diesel model was shared on the internet.

The video of the comparison between the two models of the Thar has been uploaded on YouTube by The Car Show on their channel. The video starts with the presenter introducing the models in front of him parked side by side. He mentions that the model on the left is the RWD AX(O) and it costs Rs 9.99 lakh and the model on the right is the 4X4 LX variant which costs Rs 16.49 lakh. He adds that the price between the two variants is Rs 6.5 lakh and moving on he will be showing all the differences between the two models.

He first starts off with the differences on the front fascia of the cars. He points that the base LX variant misses out on factory fitted fog lamps on the front bumper. He then also points out the LX variant also does not get the LED DRL on the turn indicators on the front. He then moves on the engine compartment of the SUV and tells the base LX variant comes equipped with the same 1.5 L diesel engine that is offered on the XUV300. This engine in the Thar RWD produces around 117 bhp of maximum power and 300 Nm of torque. It only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Following this he then shows engine in the top spec LX model and mentions that it gets the 2.2 L diesel engine which produces a maximum power of 130 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. He adds that this model in the 6-speed manual variant produces the same 300 Nm of torque and also comes with the option of a 6-speed automatic transmission. he then moves on to the differences in side profile of the cars where shows that the LX 4X4 model comes with company fitted 18-inch alloy wheels in grey color meanwhile the AX(O) variant comes with 16-inch steel wheels.

He then mentions that another major difference on the side profile of the models is the design of the side steps. The more expensive model gets a full side step meanwhile the base variant gets a hollowed out tube like side step. Another difference on the side profile is the addition of 4X4 and mHwak badging on the top-spec model. He then moves on the interior of the cars and tells that the base variant and top spec variant both get manual ACs but the base variant does not get the touchscreen infotainment system. Additionally there is a rear roll bar cover on the LX variant.

At the end the YouTuber mentions that the RWD model can be had in the LX trim as well by paying Rs 1.5 lakh extra which will get all the missing features in base AX(O) variant. He adds that in his opinion the base variant is a value for money variant and if someone wants to fully modify their car they can get the base variant and customize it with aftermarket accessories. And if someone likes the stock looks and features of the car and want a fully fledged off-road capable car then they should go ahead with the LX 4X4 variant.
