MG Hector, Hector Plus SUVs get hefty 1 lakh+ price cuts

The MG Hector and Hector Plus have emerged as strong contenders in the midsize SUV segment, but to close the gap with segment leaders like Scorpio N and XUV700, they needed a competitive edge. MG Motor has smartly addressed this by revising the prices of these models, making them even more appealing to buyers during the festive season.

MG Hector Facelift

Earlier this year, MG Motor introduced facelifted versions of the Hector and Hector Plus, which instantly gained traction in the market due to their segment-first features. Despite their initial success, they found themselves in third place among midsize SUVs, lagging behind the Scorpio N and XUV700. However, the recent price reduction is expected to inject fresh enthusiasm into the Hector and Hector Plus, possibly propelling them to the forefront of the segment.

In September 2023, MG Hector prices received a significant haircut, ranging from Rs 27,000 to Rs 1.21 lakh. For instance, the base Style 1.5 petrol MT variant is now attractively priced at Rs 14.73 lakh, the same as its January 2023 rate. The Smart Pro 1.5-liter petrol MT is now available at Rs 17.99 lakh, a reduction of Rs 66,000, while prices of other variants like Sharp Pro 1.5-liter petrol MT and CVT and Savvy Pro 1.5-liter petrol CVT have also seen a drop of Rs 66,000.

The diesel variants have witnessed the most substantial price cuts. The Shine 2.0-liter MT, for instance, is now priced at Rs 17.99 lakh, reflecting a reduction of Rs 86,000. Similarly, the Smart 2.0-liter diesel MT is now available at Rs 19 lakh, Rs 94,000 less than before. The Smart Pro MT variant comes at Rs 20 lakh, a price reduction of Rs 1.29 lakh, and the Sharp Pro MT is cheaper by Rs 1.21 lakh, now retailing at Rs 21.51 lakh.

The MG Hector Plus, after the price revision, boasts a price range of Rs 17.50 lakh to Rs 22.21 lakh. Petrol variants have seen reductions in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 81,000. The base Smart 1.5-liter petrol MT 7-seater variant is now priced at Rs 17.50 lakh. The CVT option is available for the Sharp Pro 1.5-liter petrol variant, which is priced at Rs 21.48 lakh, a reduction of Rs 66,000. Prices of Sharp Pro 1.5-liter petrol CVT 7-seater and Savvy Pro 1.5-liter petrol CVT 7-seater have been slashed by Rs 81,000, with new prices at Rs 21.48 lakh and Rs 22.43 lakh, respectively.

All diesel variants of the Hector Plus now enjoy a price cut of at least Rs 1 lakh. For instance, the base Smart MT 7-seater’s price has been reduced by Rs 1.04 lakh, bringing it down to Rs 19.76 lakh. The Smart Pro 2.0-liter diesel MT 6-seater now starts at Rs 20.80 lakh, following a price reduction of Rs 1.20 lakh. The Sharp Pro 6-seater has seen a price drop of Rs 1.22 lakh, now retailing at Rs 22.21 lakh. The most significant price cut of Rs 1.37 lakh applies to the Sharp Pro 2.0-liter diesel MT 7-seater variant, which is now priced at Rs 22.21 lakh.

Despite these price adjustments, the equipment list for the Hector and Hector Plus remains unchanged. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 143 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque, with transmission options including 6-MT and CVT. Meanwhile, diesel variants feature a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 170 PS and 350 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. With these price reductions, MG Hector and Hector Plus are poised to capture the attention of SUV enthusiasts and prospective buyers, setting the stage for a robust performance during the upcoming festive season.
