The Kia Seltos has been a mainstay in the C-SUV segment. It set the charts on fire with its launch in 2019, and this year Kia took it to the next level with the facelift. The Seltos comes with all the bells & whistles from ADAS to a panoramic sunroof. Kia also introduced the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on the new Seltos. But one thing Kia has shied from trying is giving CNG on any of its cars. People have done aftermarket CNG kits on the Seltos, so will we see Kia bringing the Seltos CNG? Kia Seltos CNG
Kia had flirted with the idea of bringing CNG on the Seltos. The test mules of Carens CNG were spotted way back in 2022. It was spotted with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol that has since been discontinued. Even the Sonet 1.0-litre turbo was spotted testing with CNG. When the Carens was spotted with CNG, it was speculated that Seltos could also get it. The Carens CNG was not a aftermarket job, but looked like a proper factory fitted one. Still there has been no news since. Eventually, the CNG spy shots have died down with no news or updates since the second half of 2022.
Kia’s plan
The reason for the dead interest is that Kia seems to have had a change of mind. Earlier this year, Kia stated that it has no immediate plans to bring CNG or hybrid cars to India. Rather, it wants to transition from combustion engine models to EVs, with its first mass-market EV coming in 2025. So, for now, it seems that Kia Seltos CNG is not on the cards. But you never know, recently, Tata Motors, stated how CNG could play a vital role due to strict norms on diesel engines. Also, in this segment, the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder do come with CNG. So maybe in the future, if CNG demand goes up Kia could be forced to bring the Seltos CNG.
