Nissan affordable EV

Nissan is taking electrification very seriously, as it premiered five different EV concepts at the Tokyo Mobility Show. On the sidelines of this Show, Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation stated that electrification is gathering pace, and Nissan doesn’t want to miss out on it. He stated that the brand is working on an affordable A-segment EV. With this EV, Nissan is working on competitive pricing and will be introduced so it is acceptable to a larger audience. For that, the company is also studying the potential to localise cells and batteries.

Nissan affordable EV – No Magnite EV

Francois Bailly, SVP and chief planning officer for AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania), stated the company is looking for an all-in approach to EVs. So, it seems like Nissan is not too keen on converting its current ICE cars into EVs. This hints that the Magnite EV is out of the question for now. The Japanese manufacturer is looking to bring ground-up EVs through a skateboard platform. Also, the A-segment EV will be a start, and the brand may look to bring more EVs into different segments.

Current plans

Nissan is exploring the idea of bringing its Ariya EV to India in 2024. This EV will come through the CBU route and will become the first EV in the brand’s portfolio. The CMF-B platform on which its C-SUV segments are being planned is also expected to spawn an EV in the future.
