New Kia Carnival design revealed! Coming to India?

Finally after a long wait Kia has officially revealed the new Carnival. The released photos showcase the design elements of the MPV. Carnival is a luxury offering from Kia and will soon debut in South Korea. The MPV will later come to India and we will bring a comprehensive review once launched. The interior is yet to be unveiled but today let’s take a look at the exterior design of the all new Kia Carnival.

New Kia Carnival – Exterior Design

Upfront, the new Carnival has received a major update and draws inspiration from the flagship SUV EV9. It gets a new and massive Tiger Nose grille design with chrome surrounds. It also has inverted L-shaped DRLs that are extended to the centre but do not get connected treatment. The headlamps are sleek and placed vertically in an ice cube pattern. The lower bumpers get black cladding treatment with radar placed in the centre for ADAS. The bonnet gets some sharp cuts and creases and overall the new Carnival looks muscular from the front.

Once you come to the side is when you will realise the sheer length of the MPV. The side profile is largely dominated by the large windows that help to enhance the sense of space inside the already spacious cabin. The front door opens in conventional fashion but the rear door gets a sliding mechanism. It also gets request sensors for the rear doors. The wheels are all new and the design of the alloys looks very futuristic. It also gets side steps and roof rails and overall the side profile does not have many cuts and creases.

The rear profile has been designed very neatly. It gets a large rear windscreen with an integrated rear spoiler. Interestingly, the rear wiper isn’t visible and we believe that it has been tucked under the rear spoiler. It gets almost connected tail lamps and the overall pattern mimics the design elements of the headlamps. On the lower bumpers we can see reflectors and reverse lamps on either side. Overall it gets a very clean rear with neatly designed tailgate.

What about interiors?

Now although the interiors are yet to be revealed, we can expect a major design overhaul. Also, it may get design cues inspired from the EV9. We could see a twin-display setup of the touchscreen and digital instrument cluster dominating the dashboard. To enhance the sense of luxury, the new Carnival may get soft touch dashboard and soft touch door pads. Other features like wing-out headrests, ventilated seats, dual sunroofs etc should continue on the facelifted model.

Engine Specifications

Kia didn’t reveal the specifications of the car at the Auto Expo 2023. Globally, the Carnival comes with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. We don’t think Kia will bring the petrol to India. Kia could give it the 2.2-litre diesel engine capable of producing 200bhp and 441Nm of torque. Transmission options could include only an automatic gearbox.

New Kia Carnival – Launch & Pricing

Kia has confirmed that it plans to launch the new Carnival in India. It hasn’t given a fixed timeline, but we can expect it sometime in 2024. What about the pricing? The new Carnival is expected to come through the CKD route. Expect a major price hike compared to the old Carnival, due to the new design and features. We can expect the pricing of the new Carnival to touch Rs 50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
