Mahindra Thar five-door test mule spotted testing once again in Ladakh: New details revealed

The country’s largest SUV manufacturer, Mahindra Automotive, seems to be in the final stages of development for its upcoming five-door Thar lifestyle off-roader. The sightings of this highly anticipated SUV’s test mules are becoming more frequent, and recently, another mule was spotted in Ladakh. This new test mule highlighted a few new feature additions to the Mahindra Thar five-door.

The pictures of the all-new Mahindra Thar five-door’s latest test mule come courtesy of Autocar India. From the pictures, it can be noted that the five-door model of the Thar will come equipped with a new design for the front grille. We have seen this grille before as well, and it gets a new 6-slat design instead of the traditional 7-slat grille on the three-door Thar.

What’s also unique about the new grille is that it gets a horizontal slat in the lower part, which divides the grille into two parts. The part above is larger than the one below. Apart from this, the new five-door Thar also was seen with new LED projector headlights, which also had LED DRLs integrated in them. Additionally, the fog lamps of this SUV were also LEDs. Most likely, the production model will come equipped with all of the LED lights as spotted.

Apart from the changes on the front, the Mahindra Thar five-door will also get a small change in the rear. From the spy shots, it can be noted that although the main tail lamp is of the same shape, the design inside it has been changed. Most likely this has been done by Mahindra to create a distinction between the two models when they both become available for sale. Also, just like the three-door model, this new tail light was also an LED unit.

Changes on the interior

Now the most recent spotting did not reveal a whole lot of information about the upcoming five-door Thar. However, one new and more important feature was noted in this mule. It was seen that the company had added a dashcam just behind the 10-inch infotainment system of the SUV. Many believe that this is an odd positioning for a dashcam as generally they are placed a little higher on the windshield just below the interior rearview mirror. Now whether this feature will be offered in the production model is not clear at the moment.

Apart from it, as mentioned, the SUV this time, as well as prior to this, has been spotted with an upgraded 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This floating unit will be bigger than the one seen in the three-door model. Additionally, it has been reported that the five-door Thar will come equipped with rear AC vents, a push start-stop button, and automatic climate control. Previously, it was also spotted featuring a multi-functional steering wheel borrowed directly from the XUV700.

Coming to the powertrain options of the new Mahindra Thar five-door, so far it has been stated that the model will continue to be powered by the same engines as its three-door counterpart. Presently, the Mahindra Thar three-door model comes available with 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engine options in the four-wheel-drive variants. Reports have stated that the 5-door Thar will retain both of these engine options in a higher state of tune in order to have enough power to manage the addition of the added weight with new middle doors and other additions inside the cabin. As for the launch of the Thar five-door, most likely it will take place next year.
