The Toyota Fortuner nameplate just continues to sell no matter what. For a 50 lakh SUV, Toyota sells around 3k units of the Fortuner, which is just mind-blowing. It has annihilated the competition in hiding. Now, Toyota is looking to take this to the next step with the new-generation Fortuner. Today, we will be bringing all the known information about the new Toyota Fortuner 2025.
What do we know so far?
The new-gen Fortuner is expected to be based on the TNGA-F platform. What is so special about this platform you may ask? This platform also underpins the legendary Land Cruiser 300. Design-wise, the new Fortuner is expected to take inspiration from the Tacoma. The Tacoma gets a muted design compared to the current Fortuner. Overall we have smaller headlamps that don’t integrate into the grille. We have a grille with another strip on it housing the logo. At the back, we have C-shaped tail lamps and a new bumper design. These are just speculations for now, and the new Fortuner may come with a completely different design.
New Toyota Fortuner – Specifications
Toyota is expected to take a big leap in the specifications of the Fortuner. Earlier this year, Toyota conducted trials on the hybrid powertrain that is expected to come on the new Fortuner. In this, the 2.8-litre diesel engine gets paired with a 48-V mild hybrid tech. Toyota is claiming this powertrain will improve efficiency by 10% compared to its non-hybrid counterpart. We think this hybrid setup could come on the higher variants, while the lower variants would continue with the non-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel engine. There are also rumours that we could see a petrol hybrid engine on the new Fortuner. Could this be the 2.0-litre strong hybrid setup from Hycross or something more powerful? Only time will tell.
What else to expect?
The Fortuner has been often criticised for its bare-bones interiors and features. Toyota will be looking to solve this problem in the new Fortuner. We can expect a reworked dashboard design with a floating infotainment system like the Innova Hycross. Toyota could also improve the touch and feel of the materials as it did with the Hycross. Talking about features, it could come with a digital instrument cluster, a 9.0-inch infotainment system, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, ambient lighting, etc. How are we so sure? All these features are available on the Hyryder and Hycross, so it makes sense for the new Fortuner to get them.
New Toyota Fortuner – Launch

Coming back to the new Toyota Fortuner, we think the brand is certainly working on it. According to reports, Toyota plans to unveil the new SUV by the end of 2024 or sometime in 2025. Generally, Toyota first unveils the new Fortuner in its Southeast Asian markets and then brings the SUV to India. So a 2025 timeline looks more plausible for the Fortuner in India. What about the pricing? It is too early to speculate, but we can expect a major price hike with the new features and technology. Probably, the new Fortuner will reach the Rs 65 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai).
