Kids running across the roads have caused accidents in the past. We have come across several incidents where children have wandered away from their parents onto busy roads, both in India and in other countries. In most cases, the child miraculously escapes from the accident, but there are cases where luck just runs out. Here we have an incident from Kerala where a 1-year-old kid walks away from his home to a busy road. Thankfully, a person passing in a car through the road noticed the kid and saved him.
The video has been uploaded by Asianet News on their YouTube channel. The incident happened in Kerala’s Pattambi in Palakkad district. The video was recorded on a CCTV camera installed outside the house. According to the report, the 1-year-old kid walked out of the house on his own. The parents were probably busy or did not notice the child walking out.

The house is located next to a very busy road, and we don’t see any partition wall to keep the kid away from the road. The kid slowly walks out with a plastic bottle in his hand. The kid was probably attracted to all the cars and heavy vehicles passing through the road. We can see that it is a very busy road, with even trucks passing through.
The kid walks dangerously close to the road. We see a Datsun Redi-Go passing through as the kid approaches the road. The car driver or the passenger probably noticed the kid standing on the roadside alone. The car driver stopped almost immediately. They waited for all the vehicles to pass and then slowly reversed. The rear door of the car opens, and the passenger gets out. He picks up the kid and starts walking toward the entrance of the house.
It was only then that the parents realized that the kid had walked out. The kid was actually lucky that the car passenger noticed the kid and immediately reacted. If the kid had walked any further, the chances of getting hit by a car or any other vehicle were pretty high. The kid was extremely lucky to have escaped without any injuries.
This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this. A video from Thailand or Indonesia recently went viral, where a kid running across the road was hit by a Toyota Yaris. The car ran over the kid; however, the kid was safe and stood up almost immediately after the car passed. The kid probably got saved because of the ground clearance of the car.
We have mentioned in our older articles that driving on Indian roads is extremely risky, and one has to be cautious about such obstacles. We have come across cases where jaywalkers have caused major accidents on the road. If you are with your kid, it is always a good idea to hold his/her hand to ensure that they don’t wander away. Many modern vehicles come with an Automatic Emergency Braking system, which would avoid such crashes. However, it is always better to be alert. Parents should also be a lot more careful in such situations.
