This year has progressed rapidly in the Indian automotive industry. We have seen a lot of new car launches this year already. But now we are coming to a point, where we start thinking about what’s coming next year. 2024 is going to be packed with several exciting cars coming. Kia Sonet facelift

Kia is working on updating its compact SUV, the Sonet. Sonet sales have fallen in the last few months in anticipation of the launch of the facelift. Recently, the Sonet facelift was spotted in China without any camouflage. Though the Indian-spec is going to be a little different, we can expect some exterior highlights to continue. On the exterior, we could see a new DRL design, tweaked grille, new alloy wheel design and connected tail lamps. In the interior, we can expect new features like an electric driver seat, 360-degree camera, heads-up display and cooled glove box. We could also see ADAS on the Sonet facelift. Specs-wise, the Sonet facelift should continue with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The Sonet facelift is expected to be launched in the first half of 2024. Pricing-wise, the Sonet facelift is expected to start from Rs 9 lakh and go to Rs 18.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Upcoming SUVs in 2024 – Hyundai Creta facelift

Hyundai’s big launch next year is going to be the Creta facelift. It is going to get a new design with a palisade-inspired front design with a big grille and DRLs that merge into the grille. Hyundai already employs this design on the Venue. Other exterior changes could include new H-shaped tail lamps, new alloy wheels and new front & rear bumpers. In the interior, we could see a new dashboard probably with a floating infotainment system. New features could include a ADAS, 360-degree camera, multi-colour ambient lighting, heads-up display, digital instrument cluster etc. Under the hood, we could see the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The new Creta is expected to be launched by March 2024, and we can expect a price hike of Rs 70k to 80k depending upon the variants. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door

Mahindra is working on the bigger version of the Thar. It has previously stated that the Thar 5-door is indeed coming in 2024. Currently, the brand is rigorously testing the car in various parts of the country. From the spy shots, the Thar 5-door is going to get a slightly tweaked front design with circular headlamps and a tweaked grille. The side profile is the place where you are going to see the major changes. In the interior, we could see a bigger floating infotainment system, a new centre armrest and cup holders. The rest of the AC control vents and HVAC controls should look more or less similar. Specs-wise, we could see the 2.0-litre petrol (200bhp/370Nm) and 2.2-litre diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm). The transmission option should include a manual and an automatic option on both these engines. What about the price? The Thar 5-door could start from Rs 19 lakh and go to Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

At the Auto Expo 2023, Tata showcased the Harrier EV. It will become the biggest EV in Tata’s portfolio. Design-wise, it is going to be similar to the facelifted Harrier with a bonnet-wide DRL design. Tata could give it some subtle changes to differentiate it from the ICE version. Other changes could include new taillamps and alloy wheels. Feature-wise, we could see Tata give it some extra features like Vehicle to Vehicle charging and Vehicle to Load which was recently introduced on the Nexon EV facelift. Specs-wise, the Harrier EV could come with a 60 or 70kWh battery pack giving it a claimed range of over 500km. Also, the Harrier EV is expected to come with dual motors giving it AWD capabilities. The price of the Harrier EV is expected to start from Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Tata Curvv

The next Tata car on the list is the Curvv which is going to come with both EV and ICE powertrains. The Curvv will slot in the C-SUV segment but will have a unique advantage with its coupe-SUV shape. Overall the exterior design of the Curvv is quite futuristic. In the interiors, it gets a simple, but practical design. Specs-wise, Tata is yet to reveal the EV specs, but we can expect a claimed range of over 500km. In ICE, it could come with the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.2-litre turbo petrol. Also, a 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected. Tata will be launching the Curvv in mid-2024. The Curvv EV will be launched first and a couple of months after that we can expect the ICE Curvv. Pricing-wise, the ICE variants could start from Rs 13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), while the EV variants could start from Rs 18 lakh to Rs 19 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Mahindra XUV300 facelift

Mahindra is also preparing an update for the XUV300. In the test mules spied till now, the XUV300 seems to be getting a BE-inspired design with C-shaped DRLs and connected tail lamps. Mahindra is also working on the interiors, which is a major weakness of the current model. From the spy shots, the interior seems to be getting a new dashboard with a floating infotainment system. New features could include a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, ventilated seats and wireless charging. Specification-wise, it should continue with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.2-litre turbo GDI petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The XUV300 facelift is expected to be launched in the first half of 2024. Pricing-wise, the XUV300 facelift could start from Rs 9.50 lakh and go to Rs 18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Mahindra’s first Born Electric car the XUV.e8 will be coming in 2024. Last month, the car was also spotted in testing for the first time. In the spied car, we can see a new headlamp design with a connected DRL design as seen in the concept. The overall side profile looked identical to the XUV700 barring the new alloy wheels. At the rear, we can expect a connected tail lamp design. Specs-wise, the XUV.e8 could come with three motor options – a front powertrain with an 80kW motor with 135Nm of torque. The other two are rear powertrains – one with a 210kW with 535Nm of torque, and the second is a 170kW motor with 380Nm of torque. Mahindra has tentatively confirmed that the XUV.e8 is going to be launched by December 2024. The price of XUV.e8 is expected to start from Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
