3 cars that Maruti could send to BNCAP

Car safety has gained a lot of importance in the last few years. Manufacturers like Tata, Mahindra and VW/Skoda have led the change in this aspect. One manufacturer which has often faced criticism in this aspect is Maruti Suzuki. Now, Maruti wants to change that with the introduction of BNCAP by sending cars for crash testing in the first round. So, which cars can Maruti send to BNCAP? In today’s article, let’s talk about Maruti BNCAP plan.

BNCAP explained

Maruti BNCAP plan

BNCAP or Bharat NCAP came into effect in October, and soon it will start testing cars. Bharat NCAP is modelled on GNCAP but has been tweaked a bit for Indian conditions. BNCAP will asses the cars on three parameters –  Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection and Safety Assist technologies, similar to GNCAP. BNCAP will also award a rating ranging from five stars to zero stars. If you want to know more about BNCAP, you can check out our detailed story on BNCAP

Maruti’s plan

Now that, we know what BNCAP is, let’s come to the topic of the article. Traditionally, Maruti cars have not performed well in NCAP crash tests. Maruti wants to change that and start on a good note in BNCAP crash tests. According to reports, Maruti has already registered three of its cars for the crash testing in the first round. Sadly, we don’t know which cars Maruti is sending. But we can predict, right? Stay with us as we try to decode these three cars.

Maruti BNCAP plan – Which 3 cars to expect?

Maruti BNCAP plan

We think Maruti will be keen on sending the Brezza and Grand Vitara for BNCAP testing. For starters, the Global C platform has done well with the pre-facelift Brezza, and Maruti will be hoping it does well again. The brand will be hoping for a five-star rating on the Brezza and Grand Vitara. So two out of the three cars are sorted, What about the third car? This is a bit tricky to guess. The most likely option could be the Invicto, as it is essentially the brand’s flagship product. Also, the Invicto is underneath a Toyota car, and people will have high expectations from it. For Maruti, it makes sense that all its high-value products are tested. Some other options, Maruti could test include Jimny, Ertiga or XL6. It is highly unlikely that Maruti will test its entry-level and affordable cars in the first round.
