10. Mahindra Bolero

A top SUV list will be incomplete without the Mahindra Bolero. Mahindra sold 9,647 units of the Bolero in October, a slight hike from the 9,519 units sold in September. The Bolero has practically received no updates for the last decade but continues to be one of the best-selling SUVs. Specs-wise, it comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine capable of producing 75bhp and 210Nm of torque. Pricing-wise, the Bolero starts from Rs 11.70 lakh and goes to Rs 13.10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Grand Vitara continues to do a decent enough job for Maruti. In October, Maruti sold 10,834 units of Grand Vitara, a drop from the 11,736 units sold in September. The Grand Vitara comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild and strong hybrid setups. It also comes with an AWD option. Features-wise, we have a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, 9.0-inch infotainment system, coloured heads-up display etc. Pricing-wise, the Grand Vitara starts from Rs 12.57 lakh and goes to Rs 23.32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).  

8. Maruti Fronx

Maruti’s gamble of bringing a beefed-up version of Baleno is working like a treat. In October, Maruti sold 11,357 units of the Fronx almost equal to the 11,455 units sold in September. The major selling point of the Fronx is its sporty design which has gained eyeballs from younger audiences. We also have the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (98bhp/147Nm) and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (88bhp/113Nm). Feature-wise, it gets a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, ARKAMYs sound system, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, six airbags etc. Pricing-wise, the Maruti Fronx starts from Rs 8.66 lakh and goes to Rs 15.37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

7. Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue continues to give good company to the Creta in this list. In October, Hyundai sold 11,581 units of Venue, a drop from the 12,204 units sold in September. The Venue comes with ADAS which is a segment first. Other features include a 4-way powered driver seat, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient nature sounds and drive modes. Specs-wise, we have three engine options – a 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm), a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (81bhp/113Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (113bhp/250Nm). Pricing-wise, the Venue starts from Rs 9.14 lakh and goes to Rs 16.11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

6. Kia Seltos

The Seltos has finally managed to leapfrog Grand Vitara in sales. In October, Kia sold 12,362 units of Seltos, a major hike from the 10,558 units sold in September. According to Kia, it has a big backlog of deliveries due to production constraints. With the recent facelift, the Seltos has got new design and features like a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and more. The Seltos comes with three engine options – a 1.5-litre turbo (157bhp/253Nm), a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (113bhp/144Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (114bhp/250Nm). Transmission options include a Mt, iMT, CVT and even a DCT gearbox. Pricing-wise, the Seltos starts from Rs 12.98 lakh and goes to Rs 24.64 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Top SUVs October 2023 – 5. Hyundai Creta

The Creta continues to showcase its dominance in its segment. In October, Hyundai sold 13,077 units of the Creta, a hike from the 12,717 units sold in September. Feature-wise, the Creta comes with a 10.25-inch infotainment system, sem-digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof etc. Specs-wise, the Creta comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (113bhp/143Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (113bhp/250Nm). Both engines come with manual and automatic gearbox options. Pricing-wise, the Hyundai Creta starts from Rs 12.90 lakh and goes to Rs 23.03 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Mahindra Scorpio

The Scorpio also makes its presence felt in the top-5. Just to note, the sales number includes the N & classic. In October, the duo raked in combined sales of 13,578 units, a major hike from the 11,846 units sold in September. Mahindra has done a good job of differentiating the two SUVs. The N caters to a modern buyer who needs a feature-loaded, but rugged SUV. On the other hand, the Classic caters to the existing fan base of Scorpio. Pricing-wise, the Scorpio Classic starts from Rs 16.20 lakh and goes to Rs 20.78 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), While the N starts from Rs 15.95 lakh and goes to Rs 29.94 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

3. Tata Punch

It is quite incredible that two Tata SUVs are in the top 3. In October, Tata sold 15,317 units of the Punch, a major increase from the 13,036 units sold in September. The major USP of Punch is the SUV feel it gives at an affordable price. The engine options it sports are a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (87bhp/115Nm). We also have a CNG option (72bhp/103Nm). The CNG is Tata’s famed twin-cylinder technology that opens space in the boot. Pricing-wise, the Punch starts from Rs 7.12 lakh and goes to Rs 12.05 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Slotting into the second spot is the Maruti Brezza. In October, Maruti sold 16,050 units of the Brezza, an increase from the 15,001 units sold in September. The Brezza comes with the tried and tested 1.5-litre petrol engine capable of producing 101bhp and 136Nm of torque. The Brezza also has a CNG option. Feature-wise, the Brezza comes with a heads-up display, 360-degree camera, 9-inch infotainment system etc. Pricing-wise, the Brezza starts from Rs 9.66 lakh and goes to Rs 16.62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

1. Tata Nexon

Topping the list is none other than the new Tata Nexon. In October, Tata sold 16,887 units of Nexon, a decent hike from 15,235 units sold in September. In the facelift, Tata solved all the major issues of Nexon from rear design to features. Talking about features, the Nexon comes with a 10.25-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 9-speaker JBL system, blind view monitor, Harman AudioworX, height adjustable driver and co-driver seat. Under the hood, the Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both engines come with manual options, while petrol gets a DCT automatic and diesel gets an AMT. Pricing-wise, the Nexon starts from Rs 9.55 lakh and goes to Rs 18.72 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
