Mahindra XUV300 facelift to get this

The race of compact SUVs in India will get exciting as Mahindra will soon launch the XUV300 facelift. The test mule of the XUV300 has been spotted multiple times and each time some new details were revealed. The SUV will receive some design tweaks for exterior as well as for interiors. Mechanically the XUV300 facelift is likely to remain the same with the same engine options. However, the Mahindra XUV300 facelift is said to receive a major mechanical overhaul in form of new transmission option. What’s that? Let’s find out.

Mahindra XUV300 facelift – New Transmission Option

Mahindra Scorpio N gearbox

To give you a brief, currently the Mahindra XUV300 is offered with two gearboxes, a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT transmissions. Both these gearboxes are paired with petrol as well as with diesel powertrains. Whereas Mahindra also offers a turbo petrol engine with higher state of tune which is mated only to a 6-speed manual transmission. A manual transmission is always a boon for enthusiasts while the automatic transmission makes life easier within the city traffic. Among all the automatics, the AMT is oftenly offered in entry-level cars as they are cheaper than others. However, they are also the most jerky unit out there and one of the slowest with shifts.

On the other hand, a fully automatic gearbox like the Torque Converter unit offers quick and smoother shifts. A torque converter gearbox definitely enhances the overall driving experience of a car. Coming back to the XUV300, Mahindra is likely to swap the slow AMT gearbox with a smoother, 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. According to Mahindra, the torque converter unit could appeal to more buyers and offer a smooth driving experience.

However, we do not have any information as to which engine option will receive the new gearbox. Talking about the new automatic gearbox, it is developed by the Japanese brand Aisin. Aisin has been supplying the 6-speed torque converter unit to many brands. Interestingly, the discontinued Mahindra XUV500, the XUV700 and the Scorpio N are also offered with Aisin sourced automatic transmission. Other cars like Skoda Slavia/Kushaq, VW Vistus/Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Brezza/Ertiga/Fronx/XL6/Grand Vitara, and MG Astor are all equipped with Aisin sourced 6-speed torque converter transmission.
