New affordable EV

Recently, Nissan confirmed that it is studying the possibility of bringing an affordable A-segment EV to India. With this, the brand is trying competitive pricing so it is viable for a larger customer base. However, at the same time, Nissan stated that it is not too keen on converting its current ICE cars into EVs. This means we could see ground-up affordable EV from the Japanese manufacturer. However, ground-up EVs are not affordable, so what is the other possibility?

New affordable EV – Another possibility

Earlier this year, Renault confirmed that it is planning to bring an EV based on the Kwid. Renault already sells the Kwid EV in China. This EV will be highly localised to make it affordable. This option makes more sense for Nissan if it is targeting an affordable price tag. Like other shared products, the exterior design of both cars could be different, but under the hood, they will share all their specifications. We can expect something similar in this upcoming EV.

Nissan plans

Nissan is exploring the possibility of bringing the Ariya EV to India in 2025. The Ariya EV is the brand’s most advanced EV with technology taken from its Formula E team. The Ariya will come through the CBU route and will become the first EV in the brand’s portfolio. After that, we could see Nissan bring an affordable EV option. Also, the CMF-B platform on which the brand is building its Creta rival could spawn an electric SUV in the future.
