The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift has created quite a buzz with its unveiling at the Japan Mobility Show. While Suzuki has not officially confirmed the introduction of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features in the India-spec Swift, there are strong indications, given the presence of ADAS radar cut-outs on the test mules.
The Japan-spec 2024 Swift comes loaded with a suite of ADAS features, enhancing both safety and driving convenience. One standout feature is the Dual Sensor Brake Support, utilizing a camera and a laser sensor to detect vehicles and pedestrians. This system provides alerts, assists in braking, and can even apply brakes automatically in critical situations, significantly improving safety, especially during highway driving.
Adaptive Cruise Control is another noteworthy feature, monitoring the vehicle in front and automatically maintaining a safe distance by adjusting speed. This system, utilizing sensors, ensures smooth acceleration and deceleration, even during curves or lane changes. The 2024 Swift also boasts a Driver Monitoring System, featuring a camera integrated into the side of the infotainment system. This system identifies the driver’s face, analyzing factors like eye movements, line of sight, and facial direction. In case of drowsiness or inattentiveness, real-time alerts are activated, contributing to overall safety.
An Adaptive High Beam Assist is integrated into the headlight control system of the 2024 Swift. This system optimizes visibility by switching between high and low beams, using millimetre-wave radar and a monocular camera to adjust the high beam range and reduce glare on the vehicle ahead.
The Lane Keep Supporting Function works in tandem with the adaptive cruise control, automatically providing steering input to keep the vehicle centered in a specific lane. It uses information such as driving trajectory and intervenes with steering assistance if there is a high likelihood of deviation.
A Road Sign Recognition Function is also part of the 2024 Swift’s ADAS features, alerting the driver by displaying detected signs on the multi-information display. This system provides immediate attention to signs with a buzzer alert, supporting warnings for no-entry and red light situations. In addition to these ADAS features, the 2024 Swift is equipped with other safety support features, including a blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, start notification sound, 360-degree camera system, and functions that reduce engine output while starting the vehicle to prevent collisions caused by gear shift errors.
While Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the 2024 Swift in India next year, the inclusion of these advanced features remains uncertain. The new Swift is anticipated to compete with models like the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and Tata Punch, potentially offering a premium over the current model, starting from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The India-spec variant may vary in features compared to its Japan counterpart, reflecting the specific demands and preferences of the Indian market.
