Renault Kiger base variant is cheaper than even these hatchbacks!

In India, when someone thinks of buying a car in the budget of Rs 6-7 lakh, the options become restricted to the hatchback segment. However, what if we told you that you can get a sub-compact SUV for the same price? Don’t believe us? Well, check out the Renault Kiger for a moment. It is currently one of the most affordable sub-compact SUVs in India, and you’d be shocked to know that it is priced lower than some of the very popular hatchbacks in India. This list of cars that the Renault Kiger undercuts in pricing is as follows:

Renault Kiger

Tata Tiago

Tata Tiago

One of the most popular hatchbacks sold by Tata Motors, the Tiago is a small great car. However, for the price of Rs 6.54 lakhs, the company offers its mid-spec XE CNG variant. On the other hand, the Kiger starts at Rs 6.49 lakh and is a much bigger and better car than the Tiago. Apart from the XE CNG variant the Tiago is offered in 10 more variants which are all priced above Rs 6.54 lakh, the price of the base variant of Kiger. The top-spec variant of this hatchback is priced at Rs 8.19 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Another one of the popular hatchback in India is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. The company consistently sells around 3,500-4,000 units of this hatchback every month. In addition to the ZXI Plus, the Celerio is offered in ZXI AMT, ZXI CNG and ZXI AMT which are priced at Rs 6.66 lakh. Rs 6.73 lakh, and Rs 7.14 lakh respectively – all more than base Kiger!

All of the variants of the Baleno starting from the Sigma variant to all the way up to Alpha AMT priced at Rs 9.88 lakh are more expensive than the Renault Kiger subcompact SUVs base RXE variant.

Renault Kiger: Is it a good alternative to these cars?

This depends on you, the buyer. The base variant of the Renault Kiger produces 71 bhp. That is not a sporty engine, or car. Is it good enough for gentle, sedate drivers? Yes. It is spacious and comfortable? Most would say yes. Some buyers might be more comfortable with buying any popular Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai or Tata car instead though. The final decision has to be yours. But if a car with the SUV-body style, solid safety (4 stars for adults, 2 stars for child GNCAP), good interior and boot space are what you are looking for, the Kiger is definitely a good buy. Do remember that there are higher variants of the Kiger that offer more features and tech and even a turbopetrol engine.
