The driverless self-driving taxi experience

This video of the self-driving, driverless Jaguar I-Pace taxi has been shared on Instagram by Neha Deepak Shah. The influencer shared this cool experience with the caption, “Driverless Self-Driving Taxi!!! Is this the future? Honestly, I was MINDBLOWN… It has to be one of the COOLEST experiences EVER. Tried this in San Francisco recently @waymo & I just couldn’t be calm.”

It starts off with the woman booking a taxi with the help of the Waymo self-driving, driverless taxi app. She then shows that a white Jaguar I-Pace taxi arrives at the location, and it can be noted to have massive sensors and cameras on top of its roof. Soon after this, she explains that the car was opened with the help of the Waymo app, and she and her friends sit inside the car. After this, she tells that it is just like Uber, and to start the ride, she had to press the start button on the touchscreen of the car.

Soon after this, her ride starts, and she gets excited because of this new experience. She states that this experience to her felt like the scene from the movie “Taarzan – The Wonder Car.” For those who are not aware, in that movie, the ghost of Ajay Devgan drives the custom-made DC car. Following this, she concludes the video with the question, “What do you think about it & would you take this ride?”

The dark side of driverless self-driving taxis

A lot of netizens in the comment section of the video stated that it was an extremely interesting experience. However, some critical viewers and commenters stated that as innovative and amazing as this service is, it could pose a threat to employment in the taxi industry. A lot of people stated that this type of service will lead to unemployment. A few people also shared their concerns over the safety of this new service by asking the question: if there is no driver, what happens in case of an accident, emergency, or breakdown?

What is Waymo Self-Driving Driverless Taxi Service?

For those who may not be aware, Waymo is a self-driving technology company that operates a ride-hailing service using autonomous vehicles. Currently, the company operates its taxis in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The Waymo self-driving taxi fleet utilizes advanced sensors, radar, lidar, and cameras to navigate and make real-time decisions on the road. The vehicles are designed to operate without a human driver, relying on sophisticated algorithms and machine learning to handle various driving scenarios.

What happens in case of an accident or a mishap?

Now answering the concerns of a lot of commenters on the post, if a driverless taxi operated by Waymo were to crash, the response would depend on the circumstances and the cause of the accident. According to the company, Waymo’s autonomous vehicles are equipped with safety features and backup systems to mitigate the risk of collisions, but accidents can still occur due to unforeseen circumstances or technical failures.

So in the event of such an unforeseen crash, Waymo would likely conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause, and improvements would be made to the technology to prevent similar incidents in the future. Additionally, legal and insurance processes would come into play, as with any conventional car accident, involving liability considerations and potential compensation for affected parties.
