Style and Design

Tata Harrier

In terms of design, the Tata Harrier is undoubtedly one of the best looking SUVs in India. The design might be a bit polarising but it has attracted many people. It is a wide car with an upright bonnet and muscular stance. Upfront it gets unique design elements like the connected LED DRLs and vertically placed LED headlamps. From the side, the Harrier looks striking, thanks to the sloping roof design. Also, it sits on massive 18-inch tyres which by the way on the Dark Edition are 19-inches. Oh and yes, how can we miss the dark edition! Tata Harrier in all black avatar looks absolutely stunning! Now if you are impressed with the front design, you will be even more impressed with the rear. It gets the connected LED tail lamps and aggressively styled bumpers. The reflectors are placed thoughtfully and do not feel after thought addition like before. Overall, Tata Harrier is an attractive looking SUV which has a lot of character. It is wide, huge, muscular and butchy, that will scare anyone on the road.

Tata Harrier – Features

One of the weaknesses of the old Harrier has now become the strength of the SUV. When launched in 2019, Tata Harrier was criticised for not offering enough features. Tata kept adding a few with every new edition they launched but with facelift the list has become even more exclusive. Talking about the features, Tata Harrier gets – Welcome and goodbye animation on LED DRL and connected tail lamps, LED headlights, LED fog lamps, Knee Airbag, 10 JBL Speakers with subwoofer, 12.3-inch infotainment system, Dual Zone climate control, Touch control for HVAC, E-Shifter for automatic variants, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Rear door sunshades, ambient lighting, Bejeweled rotary selector with display for terrain response modes, 45kW USB charger, Multiple ambient lighting options on sunroof & midpad, Gesture Controlled Power Tailgate, and a lot more.

Safety

Tata Harrier crash test

Now it’s a known fact that Tata Motors builds one of the safest cars in India. The Nexon became the first Indian car to score a 5-star safety rating in Global Ncap. Even the affordable cars like Punch and Altroz have also achieved this milestone. However, with the Harrier and Safari, Tata Motors has set a new benchmark. Tata Motors crash tested both the SUVs in the Global Ncap and they not only scored 5-star ratings, but have also scored the maximum points for adult and child safety. What makes this achievement special is the fact that the SUV has scored such a great score under stricter safety standards. Talking about the numbers, Tata Harrier has scored an impressive 33.05 out of 34 for adult safety and 45 out of 49 for child safety. These are impressive numbers as the second safest car has a score of 29.74 out of 35 for adult safety and 42 out of 49 for child safety. So it’s safe to say that the Harrier is the safest SUV in India. However, we do hope other cars to also come this close or do even better as safety is something everyone should prioritise.

Tata Harrier – Technology

The Harrier is now not only loaded with features but also gets some advanced technology like ADAS. The ADAS tech on the Harrier is based on cameras and radars. In fact it gets two radars for the rear as well. Talking about the features on offer, Tata Harrier gets – Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Door Open Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert and High Beam Assist. Additionally, Tata has confirmed that Harrier will soon get the Lane Keep Assist feature which is currently under testing. Once the testing is done, the Harrier will receive the feature via software update.

Land Rover’s Platform

As we all know that the Harrier is based on Land Rover’s D8 platform which Tata calls it as Omega Architecture. It is the same platform that underpins the famous Discovery Sport. Now Tata does not use the exact platform as the original platform is equipped with aluminium which is expensive. To keep the cost in check, Tata swapped the aluminium materials with high strength steel. So although it is not exactly the same platform, we can call it a derivative of the D8 platform. However, Tata has maintained the characteristics of the original platform. True to the original platform, Tata Harrier rides really well. The high speed stability is fantastic and feels planted on the road. What Tata has directly shared with the D8 platform is the front suspension setup. They have shared the exact same components for the front suspension, giving you a cushioned ride. Overall, the Harrier is a great car to drive and with the new electric power steering wheel, it feels even more eager around the corners.
