Maruti’s Punch rival to get a update next year?

The Tata Punch has become the go-to option for buyers in the Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8 lakh mark. It offers safety, features and more importantly the SUV stance. Copying the same formula Hyundai has launched the Exter, which is also doing well. In all this, Maruti seems to have lost behind. Yes, it has the Fronx, but that caters to a different kind of buyer. What if you want a proper Maruti SUV in this price range? This is where Maruti can slot the Ignis. But for this, it will need to make a lot of changes. So what to expect? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Maruti Punch rival.

Is it even on the cards?

The Ignis has been completely sidelined by Maurti in its lineup. With no updates, the Ignis is slowly fading away. The Ignis has potential, but it needs some major upgrades to take on the competition. First of all, Maruti will need to beef up the Ignis by extending it a bit. They will also need to increase the ground clearance to make it look more like an SUV. All this happening on a facelift seems hard, but can certainly help Ignis better take on the Exter and Punch.

Specifications

The facelifted model should continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 81bhp and 113Nm of torque. The main highlight of this engine is its high-efficiency figures, which could become a major highlight if Maruti manages to match the Punch and Exter in other aspects. Transmission options could include a manual and an AMT gearbox.

Currently, the Ignis misses out on a lot of features and that is one of the reasons why it is struggling in sales. In the facelift, Maruti should add some new features that will keep the Ignis on par with its competition. Some features Maruti could add include a bigger touchscreen, a premium sound system, connected car technology, updated seat contours and more.
