Hyundai affordable 7-seater – is it coming?

The affordable 7-seater market is loved by customers in India. It offers that extra bit of practicality compared to similarly priced 5-seater cars. The Ertiga has ruled this segment with an iron fist but has faced some competition from the Kia Carens. If Kia can do it, why can’t Hyundai also try it? Hyundai already has the Stargazer in its Southeast Asian markets. So will they bring it to India? Let’s talk about this Hyundai affordable 7-seater.

Is it coming?

Now, Hyundai hasn’t stated anything about launching the Stargazer in India. With the Alcazar starting from Rs 20 lakh, Hyundai can place the Stargazer in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh mark. The sales of Carens should encourage Hyundai. With its bigger dealer network, the Stargazer could sell better than the Carens. We hope Hyundai brings the Stargazer to India in the next couple of years.

Hyundai affordable 7-seater – Design

The Stargazer comes with a unique design language inspired by the much more premium Staria MPV. The Stargazer also comes with a bonnet-wide DRL with a parametric grille below it. Besides this grille, we have the LED headlamps on both sides. In the side profile, we can see the MPV characteristics of the Stargazer with an elongated overhang, giving it an egg-like look. At the rear, we have connected tail lamps completing the look.

Specifications

The Stargazer sold in the Southeast Asian markets comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (113/144Nm). In India, we could see this engine in addition to the 1.5-litre turbo petrol (157bhp/253Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel engine (114bhp/250Nm) , same as the Carens. We can expect a plethora of transmission options like a manual, iMT, torque converter and a DCT gearbox.

In Southeast Asian markets, interiors and features are not paramount. It comes with a simple dashboard layout with a floating infotainment system. Hyundai has tried using soft touch material on the major touch points. What about the features? The Stargazer comes with connected car technology, wireless charging and roof-mounted AC vents. Globally, Hyundai even offers ADAS on the Stargazer. If the Stargazer comes to India, we can expect more features like sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting etc.
