Mother and daughter on scooter crash into a house after getting chased by street dogs [Video]

Stray dogs pose a significant concern for riders in various parts of the country. Instances have occurred where these dogs caused accidents on the road by suddenly leaping in front of vehicles. It’s not just stray dogs; cattle and wild animals have also triggered accidents in a similar fashion. However, among the creatures encountered on city roads, dogs are perhaps the only ones that many two-wheeler riders fear. The reason is that these mongrels often bark and even chase two-wheeler riders. Here is an incident from Chandigarh where a mother and daughter crashed their scooter into a house after being chased by street dogs.

The video was shared by Gagandeep Singh on his X profile (formerly Twitter). The footage was captured by a CCTV camera installed outside a house in Chandigarh’s Sector 38. The 26-second video depicts a Honda Activa with a rider and pillion approaching from a side road that meets another road at a T-junction. The camera was placed in a house across the junction.

The scooter can be seen approaching the camera and, even after reaching the turn, it doesn’t seem to slow down. The reason for this is the presence of three street dogs. These dogs were chasing the scooter, and the woman riding it seemed frightened by the barking and pursuit. Her daughter was seated as the pillion rider, and she also appeared afraid of the dogs.

The rider panicked, assuming that riding faster might distance her from the dogs. In an attempt to deter the dogs from following, she failed to notice the upcoming junction. Upon reaching it, she tried to turn the scooter left but couldn’t due to a dog next to the scooter on that side. With no choice, she crashed the scooter into the house ahead.

The woman collided with the bicycles parked outside the house, causing both mother and daughter to fall from the scooter. As the scooter toppled, the dogs fled from the scene. Fortunately, both mother and daughter stood up after the crash. Hopefully, they didn’t sustain any injuries. While the woman riding the scooter wore a helmet, her daughter did not.

In most instances, dogs chase bikes or two-wheelers for fun. In this case, when the scooter rider and pillion fell, the dogs appeared scared and bewildered. They simply ran away without attacking them. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, the first thing to remember is not to panic. Panicking will only exacerbate the situation, as evident in the video. It might seem counterintuitive, but slowing down and halting your vehicle often helps. These animals are often agitated by the sound of exhaust or even the way the vehicle is ridden. If you stop your vehicle, they will likely cease chasing and move away. We are not saying that all dogs behave in the same manner but, in most cases this trick helps. Dogs are territorial animals and they would only chase you till a point. Once you are out of their territory, then would stop chasing you.
