Mahindra Thar 5-door production version spotted testing: Spy video leaked online

One of Mahindra’s most anticipated launches next year is the 5-door version of their popular 4×4 SUV, Thar. Several spy images of the test mule for this SUV have surfaced on the internet to date. As the SUV nears its launch, we’ve started to see the production version. Here’s a new video showcasing what will be different in the production version of the Mahindra Thar 5-door when it hits the market.

The images that have now surfaced online were shared by MR Automotive Enthusiast on his Instagram page. In this short video shared online, we glimpse a near-production version of the Mahindra 5-door SUV parked roadside. The video begins with the rear of the SUV. It retains a boxy look similar to the 3-door version, including the tail lamps with LED elements.

There’s a high-mounted stop lamp, and the SUV will most probably come with a hardtop only. The spare wheel is completely camouflaged, suggesting a different wheel design. Previously, test mules sported 18-inch alloys from the 3-door version. However, in this video, things change as the SUV showcases a new set of wheels. This becomes evident as the video pans to the side profile. The Thar 5-door seen here boasts a 10-spoke alloy wheel, distinct from the one seen on the 3-door variant.

The video also showcases the extended length of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door. It features thick claddings around the wheel arches, enhancing the car’s muscular appearance. As the SUV comes with a hardtop roof, we anticipate a large rear quarter glass to create a more airy cabin. Additionally, the SUV will feature an electric sunroof. The overall design unmistakably embodies the Thar’s identity. Moving to the front, we notice the revised grille and new headlamps. While the grille retains vertical slats, its design differs from the 3-door version. The round headlamp unit now includes an LED ring, lending it a premium appearance. The headlight itself is an LED unit, and the fog lamp on this SUV is also expected to be an LED unit.

The video doesn’t delve into the interior details of the SUV. However, expectations include a revamped cabin with features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, and six airbags, among others. Mahindra migh also add features like keyless entry, rear parking sensors and cameras and so on. The SUV will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version will utilize a 2.0-liter turbocharged mStallion engine, while the diesel variant will feature a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged engine. The SUV is expected to be available in both 4×4 and RWD configurations, with manual and automatic transmission options for both engine variants. It is still not clear what Mahindra would be calling the upcoming 5-door version. There are rumours that suggest this SUV would be called Armada. Will Mahindra Thar 5-door get a third row seat is something that we would have to wait and watch. The Mahindra Thar 5-door is slated for launch sometime next year.
