Recently, we did an article stating that Kia has trademarked the Clavis name for its new SUV. Now according to reports, it is not a routine trademark exercise, but the Kia AY is going to be named the Clavis. The Clavis is going to be sub-4m and sit between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s portfolio. Kia could brand the Clavis as a lifestyle SUV and aim to attract a large number of buyers.

2024 Kia Clavis – What to expect?

The Kia Clavis is going to be built on an all-new platform that could support petrol/diesel and EV powertrain options. Design-wise, the Clavis is expected to come with a boxy design language to differentiate it from the Sonet & Seltos. It is expected to come with a tall-boxy design like the Soul and Telluride. The Clavis is expected to have better space in the interiors compared to the Sonet. Though the Clavis is coming with a rugged design it will miss an AWD or 4×4 option.

Specifications

The Clavis could be the car with the most powertrain options in India. According to reports, it could come with petrol, a strong hybrid petrol and an EV powertrain. The petrol engine could be a 1.0-litre turbo that powers the Sonet. Talking about the strong hybrid engine, Kia is evaluating it and the Clavis could be the first Kia car to get it in India. The EV version could at least come with 450km of claimed range. The diesel engine could be a 1.5-litre if it hasn’t been discontinued due to stricter emission norms.

2024 Kia Clavis – Launch

So when is the Clavis coming? Kia plans to unveil it globally unveil the Clavis by the end of 2024. The launch could happen in the first half of 2024. The petrol/diesel version is going to come first, followed by the EV version. With so many powertrain options, we can expect a big variant spread out of the Clavis. The pricing of Kia Clavis could start from Rs 14 lakh and go to Rs 26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
