Hyundai’s Innova Hycross rival coming to India?

The Innova needs no introduction in the Indian market. It has gone from strength to strength from an affordable to a premium MPV offering. Toyota took a major gamble by bringing the hybrid Innova, but even that has worked due to the strength of the Innova nameplate. So can anyone challenge the Innova? Hyundai does have a car it recently launched called Custin that could take on the Innova HyCross. So what is it? Let’s talk about the Hyundai Custin India.

First, let’s talk about the numbers, the Custin is 4900mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,710mm tall. It sits on a massive wheelbase of 3,055mm. The Custin is a proper XL-size MPV. Design-wise, the Custin comes with quite a traditional design compared to newer Hyundai cars. We have a nice big grille at the front with LED headlamps integrated into them. The side profile is very similar to the Innova Hycross. At the rear, we get C-shaped tail lamps that have a connected element. Overall the Custin has a clean design that would be loved by the buyers in this segment.

Interior & features

Entering the cabin of the Custin, you get a sense of airiness due to the grey and beige dual-tone theme with faux wood inserts to add the luxury quotient. There is also an all-black option if you want a different experience. The steering wheel and centre console are similar to the Tucson. In the centre, we have a vertically positioned 10.4-inch infotainment system. Coming to the second row, we have captain seats with Ottoman function. The seats are electrically adjustable and have multiple buttons for the functions. There is also a third row for three occupants, and adults should be comfortable spending time on shorter journeys.

Hyundai Custin India – Specifications

Globally, the Custin comes with two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre turbo and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. If it comes to India, we could see the India-spec 1.5-litre turbo petrol (157bhp/253Nm) and probably a 2.0-litre diesel engine (183bhp/416Nm). The diesel engine could give the Custin a major advantage over the Innova Hycross. Transmission options should include manual and automatic on both engines.

Being a Hyundai car, the Custin comes with no shortage of features. It has features like a Dual-pane sunroof (individual for front and rear rows), heated and ventilated seats, LED headlamps, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, second-row folding table, leatherette upholstery, relax/sleep mode and more.

Hyundai Custin India – Launch & price

Hyundai Custin India

Hyundai has launched the Custin in the Philippines and it is soon expected to make its way to other Southeast Asian markets. In the Philippines, the Custin pricing starts from Rs 25 lakh and goes to Rs 30 lakh. Though the India launch is not confirmed, this pricing would be attractive. Hopefully, Hyundai will bring it to India to take on the Innova HyCross and other 7-seater SUVs.
