Pune Wrong Side Driving Fine – Details 

Due to an increase in road accidents, the Pune Traffic department has now started seizing vehicles if you are found driving on the wrong way! Yes, now if you look to save some minutes by taking the shortcut on the wrong side, you can lose your vehicle in Pune. Recently a news medium reported that the Pune Traffic department has started a campaign targeting triple seating, driving under the influence of alcohol and drivers travelling in the wrong direction. This initiative comes after persistent violations by drivers, prompting the authorities to take stringent measures to ensure road safety.

Over the last 45 days, the city traffic police have issued penalties to 14,000 drivers for wrong-way driving and 16,000 for violations related to triple seating. However, even after these fines and penalties the drivers not following the law has made the traffic department take more stringent action. Since Wednesday (16 Oct 2024), over 700 vehicles including cars and bikes were impounded with over 500 vehicles seized in just one day for illegal activities, including wrong-way driving. These seized vehicles will not be released for the next six months as these motorists are a threat to their own self as well as to other road users, Pune police commissioner reported.

Additionally, the traffic police have also initiated strict enforcement of the ban on heavy vehicles during rush hours in the city to avoid unusual traffic causing other motorists to obstruct the law.

Apart from Pune traffic department, Hyderabad Traffic police have also started these campaigns to keep their city accident free and to penalise the commuters not following the law.Recently Maharashtra government had floated the idea of linking offenders bank account to traffic challan to penalise them and stop them from repeating the offences.
