According to industry reports, Toyota is planning to introduce two new SUV models in the country to take on rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and the Tata Harrier, among others. Rs 17 Lakh Japanese SUV: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 7-Seater
Toyota is confirmed to launch a new 7-seater in 2025 that will fill the gap between the affordable Rumion and the Innova Hycross. This new model will be based on an extended version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and offer an additional row of seating. In terms of design, we expect the new model to feature a new face that is in line with bigger Toyota SUVs. Changes to the exterior will include a new grille, bumper, and alloy wheel design.
When it comes to the interior, the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 7-seater is expected to maintain the same cabin as the current model, but with some additional features. The new SUV may include an updated digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, captain seats for the middle row, and more.

This upcoming Rs 17 lakh Japanese SUV is expected to debut with the Toyota Safety Sense (level 2) ADAS suite for enhanced safety. In terms of powertrain, the new model will continue with the 1.5-litre K-series petrol and the 1.5-litre TNGA petrol hybrid engine option. The NA petrol unit produces 102 bhp and 135 Nm mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed AT gearbox. Meanwhile, the hybrid unit has a combined power output of 116 bhp. While Toyota offers both FWD and AWD options on the regular model, it looks to be seen if the AWD option will be carried on the new car.
Toyota Urban Electric SUV: Toyota’s First EV in India
After much deliberation, Toyota has finally confirmed to launch of its first electric SUV in India. Showcased as the Urban Electric concept last year, the new model is expected to go on sale by H1 2025. This new SUV will be based on the same PL27 skateboard architecture as the Maruti eVX but feature significant design changes to differentiate the two SUVs.
In terms of interior, we can expect an all-new cabin with the model with dual connected screens and a floating centre console with storage. Key equipment on offer will include dual zone AC, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, electric seats with ventilation and more.

The upcoming Toyota Urban SUV concept will come provided with two BYD-sourced blade battery pack options: 48 kWh and 60 kWh. Toyota could claim 400-500 km for a full charge for the single-motor variant, while a twin-motor AWD model could also be on the cards.
