CarToq Exclusive: Hyundai i20 N Line to launch next month

Hyundai launched the all-new i20 in the Indian market last year. The premium hatchback has received quite popularity in the Indian market. Now, Hyundai will launch a sportier version of the car – the i20 N Line. It will become the first N Line product from the Hyundai stable in the Indian market.

A few months ago, the upcoming Hyundai was caught testing on the Indian roads too. The vehicle is already on sale in the international markets and it gets a few bits that make it look more aggressive too. The front and the rear bumper of the standard i20 is replaced with a new, much sportier bumper. Now our sources have confirmed that Hyundai will launch the new i20 N Line in the Indian market next month.

The front grille will also get overhauled and the new sportier version will offer an all-black grille with a “chequered flag” pattern. There is also the N Line moniker at the front, which will give it a different identity compared to the standard version of the i20.

The rear of the i20 N Line looks very different compared to the standard model. The N Line comes with a diffuser in the bumper, new triangular foglamps similar to the i30 hatchback and dual-chrome exhaust tips. There are four colour options available with the i20 N Line in the international markets, we are not sure about the colours that will be available in India. Hyundai will also offer a different set of alloy wheels with the N Line variant.

Same power

Interestingly, the Hyundai i20 N Line draws power from the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that is also available with the standard version of the car. It generates a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 172 Nm.

However, it sounds much sportier and there are changes to the suspension, which will make it much more fun to drive. We are assuming that the suspension will become much stiffer than the standard variant of the vehicle. Hyundai only offers a 7-speed DCT or an IMT with the turbo-petrol engine option. We are not sure which transmission will be available with the India-spec i20 N Line yet.

In the international markets, the i20 N Line takes on the likes of the Ford Figo RS and even the Polo GTI. There is a more powerful 204 PS variant of the i20 N Line too. However, that is unlikely to make it here. In the Indian market, the new i20 N Line will take on the likes of Tata Altroz i-Turbo and the Volkswagen Polo GT.
