Volkswagen Taigun to get aggressive pricing

Volkswagen has started accepting the bookings for the Taigun officially. However, the launch of the all-new mid-size SUV is still weeks away from now. Volkswagen is yet to announce the feature distribution on the all-new Taigun while we are not sure about the trim levels as well. However, during the media drive of the Taigun, Volkswagen revealed that there will launch of the GT variants and there will be two variants.

Without indicating the price of the upcoming Taigun, a source from the manufacturer told us that Volkswagen will price the Taigun quite aggressively. It may even undercut the prices of the Skoda Kushaq, which is a direct rival. Now, ACI reports that the Volkswagen GT manual will be priced aggressively, which confirms that the German brand will position the Taigun quite strategically in the market.

The all-new Volkswagen Taigun’s production will begin later this month. The official launch of the all-new Taigun is expected to happen by the middle of September when the manufacturer will reveal all the details including the variants, features and the price list of the vehicle.

Volkswagen’s strategy

While there are two engine options available with the Taigun – 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI, the latter is much more powerful and performance-oriented. The 1.5-litre TSI is also much more technologically advanced and it gets cylinder deactivation as well. Skoda offers the 1.5 TSI engine paired to a manual transmission only with the top-end variant of the Kushaq.

However, during the media drive of Taigun, we drove the 1.5 TSI manual in a variant that will be positioned one level below the top-end, fully-loaded version. This will allow Volkswagen to price the 1.5 TSI manual aggressively and undercut the Kushaq powered by the 1.5 TSI manual.

The top-end GT variant of the Taigun, however, gets a few extra features compared to the Kushaq top-end. It can translate into a higher price for the top-end variant of the Taigun when it launches in the market.

Differences between two Taigun GT

The top-end GT variant gets extra features like full LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, front callipers painted in the red, push-button start, sunroof, auto-dimming ORVMs, extra four airbags, full digital 8.0-inch instrument cluster, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.

Our source also mentioned that Volkswagen will only offer the cooled ventilated seats with the variants that will get leatherette seats. Now we are not sure about the exact variants but both the GT variants offered fabric seats. Volkswagen says that the leatherette seats require ventilation much more than the fabric seats.
