Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV: Launch timeline officially revealed

Mid Size SUV segment is growing in Indian market. One of the recent entrant into this highly competitive segment was Skoda Kushaq. Now Volkswagen group is ready with their next mid size SUV which is Taigun. Volkswagen will only be starting the production of this new SUV later this month and they have also revealed the launch timeline for the Taigun SUV. Volkswagen recently shared that Taigun SUV will be launched in the market by third week of September. Prices for the Volkswagen Taigun SUV will be announced during the launch only. Volkswagen India had announced couple days ago that they have officially started bookings for the Taigun SUV. Manufacturer had not shared the timeline as on when they would be launching the SUV. Replying to a tweet, Volkswagen India cleared that the Taigun will be launching in the market by the end or third week of September 2021. Volkswagen Taigun’s pre-production model was showcased at the Auto Expo last year and the production version looks almost the same.

Volkswagen has made only minor changes to the SUV. The front gets a typical Volkswagen grille. The headlights are designed in a way that it looks like an extension of the front grille itself. As this is a product that is aimed at Indian customers, Volkswagen has placed a chrome strip that runs from one end of the bumper to the other covering the fog lamps too. There is a silver faux skid plate that gives it an SUV look.

Another highlighting feature of Volkswagen Taigun is its tail lamp. It has an infinity LED bar that runs across the tail gate connecting the LED tail lights. The design of the Taigun looks matured and will definitely grab attention of other road users. Volkswagen is offering decent amount of features with the Taigun SUV. There will be features like sunroof, leatherette seats, ventilated seat feature, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, fully digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment screen, multi-function steering wheel and so on.

Volkswagen Taigun is based on the same platform as Skoda Kushaq. It used MQB AO-IN platform which is specifically developed for Indian conditions. Volkswagen is also offering decent amount safety features with the Taigun SUV. The upcoming Taigun SUV will be available with two petrol engine options. There will be a 1.0 litre TSI engine that generates 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque.

The next engine is a 1.5 litre TSI which generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0 litre engine will be offered with manual and an automatic transmission whereas the 1.5 litre TSI motor will get manual and a DSG gearbox. The SUV will be offered in both regular and GT versions. Volkswagen Taigun competes with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Skoda Kushaq and Renault Duster in the segment. Volkswagen is expected to price the Taigun competitively compete against the already popular SUVs in the segment.
