Mahindra XUV700 production commences at Chakan factory off Pune ahead of launch

Mahindra has started the production of their recently unveiled XUV 700. However, it will still take some time for the SUVs to reach the dealerships. The XUV 700 is expected to reach dealerships before the second week of September for display and for test drives.

The XUV 700 will be competing against the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector Plus. However, because of the pricing, the XUV 700 would also compete with the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and upcoming Volkswagen Taigun.

As of now, three variants of the SUV have been unveiled. They are MX, AX3 and AX5. We expect that Mahindra will be revealing more variants that would come with more equipment once the SUV finally launches. Because there are some features that are missing from the AX5 variant.

Segment leading engines

The XUV 700 would be offered in both petrol and engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre mStallion unit while the diesel engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk unit. Both the engines are incredibly refined and only gets audible when you rev them hard. Mahindra would also offer an optional all-wheel-drive version with the diesel engine. It will be available only on the top-end variants. The gearbox options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The base MX variant would not be offered with an automatic gearbox.

The engines are the most powerful in the segment. The petrol engine produces 200 PS of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine would be offered in two states of tune. The base variant would produce 155 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque on the lower variants and on the higher variants, it produces 185 PS of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque.

Segment leading features

XUV 700 would come with a lot of first in segment features such as dual-zone climate control, 3d surround system by Sony, Alexa connectivity and smart door handles. It would also come with ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System. It works through a set of cameras and radar. The XUV 700 would come with auto-high beam assist, smart pilot assist, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and front collision warning. It would also have a segment largest panoramic sunroof.

Other features include LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, LED tail lamps, sequential turn indicators, electrical adjustment for driver seat with memory function, LED turn indicators on ORVMs, electronic parking brake and connected car technology. It would also come with dual horizontally mounted screens. The centre screen would measure 8-inches or 10.25-inches depending on the variants. There is also a digital instrument cluster.

Prices

The MX variant of the XUV 700 starts at Rs. 11.99 lakhs ex-showroom for the petrol variant while the diesel variant is priced at Rs. 12.49 lakhs ex-showroom. The AX3 Petrol is priced at Rs. 13.99 lakhs ex-showroom and the AX5 Petrol variant costs Rs. 14.99 lakhs ex-showroom.
