Reports of car manufacturers in India honouring the Olympians for their performance is all over the news. Manufacturers like Tata, Renault and Mahindra have all gifted vehicles to the Olympians and Mahindra also announced that they will be offering a brand new custom made XUV700 SUV to Neeraj Chopra who won Gold Medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Now, Mahindra is once again the news and this time around, they are gifting a customised Mahindra XUV700 to Paralympian Avani Lekhara for achieving Gold Medal in the Women’s 10m AR Standing SH1 Final. Not only did she secure the gold medal, she also set a paralympic record by scoring 249.6.
The Mahindra XUV700 that Avani Lekhara will be gifted is different from any other XUV700 in the market. It will be developed specifically for people who are differently abled. Recenltly, Paralympian Deepa Malik had asked Mahindra to develop or customise cars that can be used by differently abled athletes too.
Anand Mahindra who is quite active of social media responded to that in his recent tweet by saying, “A week ago @DeepaAthlete suggested that we develop SUV’s for those with disabilities. Like the one she uses in Tokyo.I requested my colleague Velu, who heads Development to rise to that challenge. Well, Velu, I’d like to dedicate & gift the first one you make to #AvaniLekhara.”

The tweet does not mention which SUV the manufacturer will be gifting but, it is most probably going to be a customised Mahindra XUV700. Mahindra XUV700 is the brand’s latest product. The SUV was unveiled recently. It is till date, the most technologically advanced vehicle from Mahindra.
Mahindra XUV700 is a mid size SUV that will compete with likes of Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. It is offered with a long list of features like a large panoramic sunroof, dual digital screens on dashboard. One for infotainment and the other functions as instrument cluster.
It has Advanced Driver Assistance System, leather wrapped interiors, dual zone climate control, premium looking interiors, drive modes and so on. Mahindra will be offering XUV700 in both 5 and 7 seater options. Mahindra surprised everyone with the prices at the launch. XUV700 is offered at a starting price of Rs 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom for the entry level petrol variant whereas the diesel version costs Rs 12.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
Mahindra XUV700 is available with two engine options. The petrol version is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged mStallion engine that generates 200 Ps and 380 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of the SUV is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged engine. The lower version of XUV700 diesel generate 155 Ps and 360 Nm of torque while the higher trims will generates a maximum of 185 Ps and 450 Nm of peak torque.
The automatic diesel variant generates 480 Nm of peak torque. Both petrol and diesel engine options of the Mahindra XUV700 is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. Mahindra is also offering AWD as an option in the top-end diesel variant. This is a feature that is not available with any other SUV in the segment.
